Warhammer: A Call to Arms creator James Baillie is a nerd polymath. It is a sprawling, ambitious, and scarcely-coherent effort to bring every ounce of Warhammer fantasy lore to life as a Total War game - and in doing so it captures the spirit of the old Warhammer fantasy universe better than official games might ever dare. But if you look past the dated graphics, you'll find that A Call to Arms might just be the most faithful adaptation Warhammer fantasy will ever receive on PC. Powered by an obsolete engine even when the final version was released a couple years back, and soon overshadowed by the news the Sega had acquired the rights to make a Warhammer fantasy game on PC, A Call to Arms could be seen as a classically quixotic modding effort. Over the course of five years, a high school student and a handful of volunteers tortured and twisted the aging Rome: Total War engine into becoming a full-fledged Warhammer game.
The Corruption lingering in the lands as well as The Red Duke's shambling armies often guarding the city itself means a standard assault might be hard. Mousillon can be a worthy challenge for the Bretonnian factions wishing to remove the Vampires from their lands. No one rules this accursed land, for none wish to do so otherwise. The inhabitants watch any visitors silently from their homes, cowering within and giving only occasional glimpses of their malformed bodies. The peasant hovels are on the verge of collapsing, streets are little more than sewers, and there are as many dead animals to be seen as living ones. Mousillon villages look poor and rundown, more so than typical Bretonnian villages. Those people still living within the Dukedom are inbred and horribly mutated. Having since lost its status as a proper Dukedom, the lands of Mousillon is the smallest out of all the twelve realms, even though it once held the title as being the most beautiful and fairest land of them all.Įver since the death of the previous Duke, what remains of Mousillon is a backwater region filled with marshes, bogs and swamps. Ever since its fall, Mousillon is a cursed, impoverish land that is plagued by constant misfortunes, disease and drawing the attention of dark powers. The Dukedom of Mousillon was a former founding Dukedom that once had territories stretching along the western shores of Bretonnia.
